12.15.07Congratulations to Dylan Ekis, Lucas Ortiz, and Conner Ekis
The three recently competed in the 2007 U.S. Grappling's Mid-Atlantic Championships. Conner placed first in both his gi and no gi grappling divisions. Later, Dylan took a second place in no gi, and another in gi grappling. Finally, Lucas competed and won both his gi and no gi grappling divisions as well. The trio are among the top rated kids and pre-teens at Ephrata Martial Arts, and are currently training for upcoming tournaments in 2008.

We've added a second weekly class for Kids ages 4-6 at no additional cost! The class meets every Thursday from 5:30-6:00pm. The Thursday evening class has been added in addition to (not in replacement of) the Saturday morning Kids Kung Fu class from 10:30-11am.

The event took place Saturday, April 28th at the Fleetwood Community Center. Hosted by Althouse Karate and Kickboxing Academy, the event featured ten full contact Kickboxing and Muay Thai bouts—including two matches featuring Ephrata Martial Arts fighters Angelina Glick and of course, Laura Ortiz. After three rounds of her dominating her opponent, Angelina's debut performance resulted in her winning by unanimous decision. Later that evening, Laura battled four grueling rounds against her accomplished opponent, Amber Gatts. Laura won the match and the USKA Women's Flyweight World Title Belt that came with it, making her record 4-0.

A very big thanks to our friends at Cable 11 and Blue Ridge Communications, as well as everyone from Ephrata Martial Arts who participated in the segment on self defense—you all looked great! Watching the report reminded me that we have so many talented representatives of Ephrata Martial Arts and advocates of the lifestyle that is martial arts. It's one thing to do what we do well and be passionate about it, it's another thing entirely to share that passion with the community. Thanks again!

Extended training hours!
As the student body at Ephrata Martial Arts grows, so do our class offerings! The studio is open to adult students of all ranks on Friday evenings from 6-8pm, primarily for grappling, but also as an open training session.

The youngest members of Ephrata Martial Arts now have a class just for them! This Saturday morning class is tailor-made for kids ages 3-6. The size of this class is kept small to provide personalized attention to the kids who learn discipline and develop skills through team-building exercises and a variety of fun and engaging games.
