A very general term for a very technical art. Grappling, or submission wrestling has its roots in almost every system of martial arts throughout the world, and has recently become popular thanks to increased interest in combat sports organizations such as PRIDE, K-1 and Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
Ephrata Martial Arts offers students training in both gi and no-gi grappling. Grapplers apply offensive techniques such as stand-up or clinch fighting, takedowns and throws, submission holds, joint locks, and various defensive maneuvers.
Grappling can also be used as a means to subdue an attacker without hurting them—one of the reasons why police officers, both local and from surrounding counties come to train at Ephrata Martial Arts.
Shuai Jiao, or Mongolian Wrestling is the base of our grappling program. Developed in China during the Zhou Dynasty as a military fighting system, Shuai Jiao emphasizes throws and joint locks.
Jiu Jitsu—a Japanese art thought to be popular among the samurai—complements the program by adding sweeps, powerful strikes and varying degrees of ground fighting.
Aikido uses of basic principles of motion and energy to redirect or immobilize multiple attackers. It’s through these same principles that grapplers gain the ability to control opponents on every level.
Men. Women. Fighters. Professionals. Wrestlers. Police Officers. People of all ages, skill levels, interests, and professions study Grappling at Ephrata Martial Arts. The program has grown rapidly and continues to grow as the word spreads.
